![]() ![]() ![]() No idea what they were going for with Hopper. The "comedy" in this season is embarrassing. The color and cinematography is completely different from season 1.Īlmost every single scene has a joke forced into it, and the jokes are not funny. The lyrics of the song matched exactly what the scene was portraying, and it was way too corny. They don't simply allow the show to take place in the 80s- they need to constantly shove 80s references down the viewer's throat. I was a big fan of season 1, and I enjoyed 80% of season 2. (Or is he really dead after that post credit scene?) It was like the writers needed a dramatic finish so they just let him die needlessly. Hopper just standing there staring at Joyce instead of just running back to her to press the button. It was never explained why they were there or what the motivation was for opening the gate. The Russians were completely pointless and could have been taken out completely. It made the final battle very anticlimactic as a result. The giant mind flayer that was teased since season 2 just hung out in the food court. Her unhappiness in her marriage was only acknowledged jokingly at the end when she rolls her eyes at her husband after leaving the spinning ride. Mike and Nancy's mother's subplot was dropped as soon as it began. Hopper flew off the handle at every moment. Surely he learned from last season that it would only cause trouble for everyone.Īfter his outburst on Castle byers his character was reduced to an extra who grabbed the back of his neck every so often. Will hid his feelings about the upside down AGAIN. I felt sorry for him when El saw his memories but his death didn't hit me as hard as it should. The only highlight was the scoop troops but I still hated how they kept the gang split up until the very end.īilly wasn't developed enough as a character, mainly because he was possessed for 99% of the time. ![]() I finally got to watch season 3 this week. I hope they redeem themselves for the next season. TLDR: All in all I think they went for style over substance for a show which really had both just last season. Paranoid wouldn't have just casually and obviously brought him out in public anyway tbh. Also, why even bother with the drama for Alexei? Even the characters didn't give him a second thought literally minutes later. Show us a few scenes of a hard childhood and then a moment of redemption and it's all okay? Am I meant to forget that he's abusive to his sister and probably a racist? Where'd that go? What wasted potential for development. If you're going to break up the action with something, could it please be meaningful dialogue? We get so little of it, and so many try-hard "memeable" scenes.īilly is the worst case of underdevelopment. Any intensity that is built up is destroyed, like the Dusty and Suzie sing song, or the extended Robyn and Steve drugged up scenes in the middle of the most intense moments. Which would be fine except that all the action is punctuated by total ridiculousness. They all start interesting, and then disappear for the action after a few episodes. But it's all shallow and without thought.Ĭharacter arcs are a mess. Gorey 80s zombie flicks, Russian terminator, aggressive product placement, 80s music scenes. Now it just throws them at you like its a game of dodgeball. The show used to take 80s tropes and play them out in a more modern, innovative way. ![]() Like literally just bad lines of dialogue. And so much of the writing has just become cliché. Stuff like 4 teens and a child breaking into a super secret Russian base, walking through a main hub in sailor outfits completely unnoticed was beyond unbelievable. I think the writing has had an overall drop in quality. I was really disappointed by this season. I admit, I liked the last 3 episodes (although there were still some big problems) but the first 5 (which is a whole ton of the show), all your really doing is waiting for the characters to find out what you already know!Īnd although the final episode was mostly good, the ending with the old, "Kill the brain, kill the body" business was SUCH a disappointing ending.Īlright, I gotta take a dump so my rant is now over. WHY!?Īlso, everyone keeps saying season 2 is the slowest, but no, season 3 is totally the slowest. Erica was funny in season 2, and maybe she still kind of is in season 3, but she totally ruined the perfect trio of Steve, Robin and Dustin. Eleven and Max are just straight out annoying. The season really relies on you already loving the characters, but it makes everyone worse! Hopper? A complete if you ask me. The first and second season were not like this, and yet they felt more real. He's like, "New coke is good, it's like John Carpenter's the Thing!" Like, so forced. The 80's references felt like they had been added in by a twelve year old who was showing off that he knew about new coke even though he never lived in the 80's. ![]()
